  • Samsung invests $10M, Nvidia $25M in Skild AI’s $4.5B funding round.
  • Skild AI develops software for consumer robotics, backed by SoftBank.
  • Samsung, Nvidia aim to advance “physical AI” and humanoid robot technology.

Samsung Electronics and Nvidia are strengthening their foothold in the growing consumer robotics industry by acquiring minority stakes in Skild AI Inc., a U.S.-based startup specializing in robotics software. Samsung is investing $10 million, while Nvidia is contributing $25 million to Skild AI, which develops software to power intelligent robots. The investments, part of Skild’s Series B funding round led by a $100 million commitment from Japan’s SoftBank Group Corp., value the company at approximately $4.5 billion.

The partnership reflects the growing global interest in robotics, with major tech players like Apple, Meta, Amazon, and Google heavily investing in the sector. Nvidia’s “Physical AI” is betting on robots and autonomous cars running on artificial intelligence as a major revenue source in the future, and it is using its semiconductor, software, and service know-how to speed the rollout of autonomous robots.

Samsung’s robotics ambitions extend beyond its current robot vacuum offerings to include humanoid robots and advanced household appliances. The company is the largest shareholder in Rainbow Robotics, a leader in humanoid robot development, which anchors its robotics strategy. Additionally, Samsung recently invested in Physical Intelligence, another robotics software startup, which has raised $400 million at a $2.4 billion valuation. Nvidia has also backed robotics firms like Figure AI and Serve Robotics.

Samsung, in partnership with Google, has also announced Ballie, a soccer-ball-sized AI-powered home assistant later this year that is able to project video on walls, another indicator of its interest in consumer robotics.

With the consumer robotics market heating up, strategic investments in Skild AI by Samsung and Nvidia make them well-positioned to meet the rising demand in extremely intelligent, self-operating systems, staying in step with the rest of the world in the dynamic technology sector.
