
Nokia, blackned Partner to Build 5G Deployable Tactical Networks

- Nokia and blackned GmbH signed a MoU to develop advanced 5G tactical networks for defence.
- The solution merges Nokia’s 5G tech with blackned’s defence software to support Rheinmetall Battlesuite.
- The system aims to boost secure connectivity, battlefield awareness, and rapid decision-making.
Nokia and blackned GmbH, in which the Düsseldorf-based technology firm Rheinmetall possesses a 51% ownership, have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop advanced tactical networks for deployment in the defence sector, the companies stated.
The collaboration combines Nokia’s 5G capabilities and blackned’s proficiency in defence digitalisation to create advanced, high-performance tactical communications solutions that ensure secure and dependable connectivity for military field operations.
According to the agreement, the companies will combine their respective product and solution ranges to create a distinctive, deployable communication system customized for Germany’s defense requirements and flexible for application in other nations. This partnership will utilize Nokia’s 5G tactical communication technology along with blackned’s software-driven defense solutions, forming a perfectly integrated platform for the Rheinmetall Battlesuite.

Deployable tactical networks are advanced portable systems intended for rapid setup and extended connectivity. Designed for diverse combat situations, these systems ensure dependable, continuous connectivity and elevated data rates for military units backing the Software Defined Defence concept. These deployable tactical networks boost situational awareness, accelerate decision-making, and enhance asset coordination.
