The Singapore-based firm TagTeam offers artificial intelligence training to migrant domestic and construction workers so these workers can secure AI-related employment after going back to their home nations. TagTeam participates as a member of the AI Opportunity Fund: Asia Pacific which received US$15 million funding from AVPN and Google.org alongside the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The three-year initiative launched in May 2024 will provide both financial backing and expert advisory services to TagTeam to handle workforce adjustments during the AI era as the announcement states.

Through its fund the organizations receive training support from AVPN's strategic partners including Seoul National University, KORIKA, AI Singapore, AI Education (Vietnam) and Wadhwani AI to train migrant workers along with informal workers, women alongside gender minorities and persons with disabilities. Selected firms will receive training from these new partners who ensure delivery of AI skilling programs for inclusive workforce development across Asia-Pacific.

Naina Subberwal Batra, CEO of AVPN, said, “There is a pressing need to bridge critical skills gaps in communities with unmet needs across Asia Pacific. Our funded organizations are at the heart of this important component of the AI work transition, and they bring expertise and a profound commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by these communities.”

Sanjay Gupta, Google’s Asia-Pacific president, added, “Google is proud to support the AI Opportunity Fund: Asia-Pacific initiative, which is equipping workers across the region with the skills and tools they need to thrive in an AI-powered future.”

Google.org announced an extra US$10 million funding to expand the initiative and create a special track for Southeast Asian micro-, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) together with the ASEAN Foundation. The initiative together with its existing funding will achieve two targets: teaching 720,000 workers and assisting 100,000 MSMEs.

This initiative caters to different needs by seeing young professionals use AI training to safeguard their future careers although older professionals from ages 50 to 65 need outreach services to trust AI and overcome language difficulties.
